YWN Reports Rabbis Urge Boycott Of Israeli Day Parade Thanks To Gays Marching In It

The Celebrate Israel Parade is an event attended heavily by Modern Orthodox Jewish attendees. A group listed only by its initials as a participant in this year’s parade participants list actually has a hidden agenda. In a brazen attempt to force Orthodox Jews to accept their way of life at the Torah’s expense, the understanding that was maintained for two decades has been overturned, without asking for Rabbinic authorization.
In the 1990′s Rabbi Aharon Soloveichik, Zt”l (OBM), protested against showing tolerance toward homosexuals as a public marching group at the Celebrate Israel Parade. Up until last year, his advice had been heeded. Avi Goldstein brought this to the attention of the community this year and so many leading Rabbis have signed a letter that proclaims:
Avi Goldstien's letter only pushed for a boycott of the parade, in order to prevent the gays from marching under the banner of a issur. He does not endorse protesting at the parade against them.

”Any participation in any event that includes so called “Orthodox” groups, who in any way condone or support toevah (abomination), or a deviant way of life, is asur (forbidden). Whoever is a participant or spectator is an assistant to a sinful matter. Such a brazen public chilul HaShem (desecration of the Divine Name) needs to be denounced.
Co-Signatory Rabbi Yehuda Sheinkopf said the following: “We could not let this group march under a banner of Orthodoxy without a response that this is not Orthodoxy, is it contrary to the Torah. These rabbis feel that it must be known that to join with such a group is assisting their agenda which is contrary to the Torah.”
Rabbi Yisroel Belsky gave a heter (leniency) if due to the short notice for someone who feels committed to the event what should they do so they can still attend without violating halacha. The answer was on condition that they protest the participation of the forbidden group(s).
If you wish to protest this event, the 2013 Parade occurs this Sunday, June 2, from 11 AM to 4PM in Manhattan on Fifth Avenue from 57th Street to 74th.

                (.4)      Refuse, withhold from, or deny any person access to any separate-gender bathroom where the person's gender identity is consistent with the gender for which such bathroom is reserved.

§ 16-104.  Gender-Neutral Bathrooms.

 

      (1)      Definitions.

 

            (a)      Gender Identity.  Shall have the meaning given in § 9-1102(1).

 

            (b)      Gender-Neutral Bathroom.  A bathroom that is designated for use by any person or persons, regardless of Gender Identity.

 

      (2)      Gender-Neutral Bathrooms.

 

            (a)      Any new building constructed by the City shall include Gender-Neutral Bathrooms in number and location appropriate to the building's use.

 

            (b)      Whenever the City renovates a building that it owns or occupies, or any portion of a building that it owns or occupies, and such renovation includes renovation of bathrooms, Gender-Neutral Bathrooms in number and location appropriate to the use of the building or portion thereof so renovated shall be established.

 

Also like the department of education no more mother or father

      (1)      Effective one year after the effective date of this Ordinance, all new forms issued by any City department, board, or commission shall not include requests for gender-specific identification. Such forms shall include, for example, the term “Parent/Legal Guardian” instead of “Mother” or “Father.” Where it is necessary to request the gender of a person, an option shall be provided for that person to select the option “self-identify” for the person's gender in addition to the options of “male” and “female.”

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter today signed into law the most extensive civil rights protections and benefits for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the nation.“Mayor Michael Nutter and gay rights advocates say it makes Philadelphia the first big city in the U.S. to offer tax credits to companies that extend the same health care coverage to LGBT employees’ life partners and their children as they already provide to heterosexual spouses and their children,” the Greenwich Time reports:

Councilman James Kenney sponsored the bill. He says it also makes Philadelphia the first city to give businesses tax credits for offering transgender-specific health benefits. Among other things, the measure also requires gender-neutral bathrooms in city-owned buildings and revises Philadelphia’s anti-discrimination law to include transgender people.

The bill revamps “the city’s health-care plan to ban discrimination against non-union transgender city employees, and would instate a Transgender Health Tax Credit that would encourage companies to offer transgender-specific health-insurance coverage to the transgender community,” South Florida Gay News reported last month:

City buildings would also be required to provide gender-neutral bathrooms, and the measure would clarify what constitutes employment discrimination in the city’s nondiscrimination law.
The bill won with a near-sweeping victory, with Councilman-at-Large Bill Green being the only Democrat to vote against it. Republican Councilmen-at-Large David Oh and Brian O’Neill voted against the bill.

2 years ago many rabbis banned Vosizneias for many official reasons ranging from malay tuma, to rechilus to bizyon talmidi chachamiem.  While it clear that those issuriem do exist on VIN; It also clear that those issues exist even more on Yeshiva World News, especially in Dov Gordon's pieces (David Greenfield). 


However Shimon Weiser Williamsburg ("askan" and member of the Williamsburg community board) the architect of the ban on VIN on a recently revealed interview said he had no problem with YWN.

Just for the record Yeshiva World News was notified about the clarification letter that the rabanniem in question wrote, and the audio testimony from Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky and Rav Yisroel Neuman that they signed the issur against voting for Lew Fidler when they supported David Storobin.





There were reports at the time of the ban that VIN was banned (the askaniem's reason not the rabbaniem's) because it reported on former Assemblyman and Brooklyn Democratic Chairman Vito Lopez's sexual harassment case . A post on The Five Towns Jewish Times, attributed to the American Israel Press Service, alleged that the ban was the work of members of the Satmar community associated with Brooklyn politician Vito Lopez and that the signers of the ban didn’t really know what they were signing. Matzav, in response, defended the signers...

The post on the Five Towns Jewish Times site was taken down as well. Larry Gordon, its publisher, did not respond to comments...

However, Weiser stressed that the ban had nothing to do with specifically featuring sexual abuse cases on the site, or with Vito Lopez.  “It’s a vicious lie to say such a stupid thing that there was an agenda,” he said. “We showed the rabbonim. I have a whole list of articles going back a whole year. [The gedolim] were shocked that a yiddish website with a frum name should be poisoning the minds of the young, old, and the bochurim.”
Weiser said that he and several others had given a warning to the owners of the site about their content in January 2010, well before Lopez was associated with the scandals.

“For such a politician with rich accomplishments to his life, creating housing and educating the poor, to see him go down like this, it bothers me,” said Weiser.

    “Yesterday, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) formally revised its membership standards, ending the organization’s ban on gay youths, but maintaining its exclusion of gay and lesbian adult leaders.

    “As the only openly-gay New York State Senator, a parent and a former Eagle Scout (Troop 70, Lewisburg, WV), I am outraged that the BSA has maintained its ban on gay adult leaders. This policy represents rank discrimination by the organization against LGBT people and is extremely painful to families like mine.

    To that end, I have introduced legislation (S.5170) that would deny tax-exempt status to all youth groups that discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or other defining characteristics. It has been more than ten years since New York State enacted the Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act (SONDA), and it’s long past time for the BSA to comply and remove all barriers to participation based on sexual orientation.”

"Orthodox Rabbi" Testified In Favor Of Rhode Island Legalizing Toevah Marriage

"Rabbi" Barry Dolinger of Congregation Beth Sholom in Providence said he believes that while civil law should allow gays and lesbians to marry, it must remain up to religious bodies to determine who can marry within their faith. Dolinger is also an attorney.
‘‘Never say never, but I will never perform a gay marriage as an orthodox rabbi because it’s prohibited by our main religious text,’’ he said. ‘‘But as a person of faith, it’s deeply important to me that the government stays far away from what we do. I’m all for letting people have it, and I think the government should stay out of preventing it, but we can’t compel people to violate their religious beliefs.’’

Baruch Hashem No More Gay "Pride" Parades In Yerushalayim

Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein, speaking on Wednesday at the criminal forum of the Israel Bar Association, said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and government ministers have come to him with demands to prevent demonstrations, citing security concerns. 

During a discussion about what the supervisory unit of the State Prosecutor's Office will look like,the issue of indictments filed by the police against demonstrators was raised. When a lawyer criticized the indictment of protest leader Daphni Leef, Weinstein said, “I am prepared to examine the question. I really and truly am not familiar with this particular issue.” 

Weinstein added that he is concerned about the right to demonstrate. “In recent years, issues have come before me that required me to either allow or forbid a demonstration – and the prime minister, ministers and the security forces have requested me to prohibit one demonstration or another," he said. "As a rule, I would allow the demonstration.” 

Weinstein made it clear that the prohibition of a number of demonstrations stemmed from security concerns, referring to the demonstrations in politically tense areas like Silwan in Jerusalem and Umm al Fahm near Haifa, and to divisive social issues like the gay pride parade in Jerusalem. 

Concerning the state prosecutor's supervisory unit, Weinstein said that it was being changed so the public could voice complaints directly to the watchdog and not just to the lawyers. A final formulation of the body’s structure and authority is still in the works and it's not yet clear who it will report to. 

According to Weinstein, it will be under his jurisdiction although Justice Minister Tzipi Livni is interested in an independent unit, like the judicial ombudsman for complaints against judges. At this point, it is agreed that the unit will be headed by a retired district court judge.

Vice President Joe Biden praised Jewish leaders in the media Tuesday night, crediting them with helping change American attitudes on gay marriage with contributions to television and technology like “Will and Grace” and social media.

 “The truth is that Jewish heritage, Jewish culture, Jewish values are such an essential part of who we are that it’s fair to say that Jewish heritage is American heritage,” Biden said during a speech at a Jewish American Heritage Month reception hosted by the Democratic National Committee at the American Institute of Architects building in Washington.

 

"I believe what affects the movements in America, what affects our attitudes in America, are as much the culture and the arts as anything else," Biden said at a Democratic National Convention reception celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month.

"It wasn't anything we legislatively did. It was 'Will and Grace,' it was the social media. Literally. That's what changed peoples' attitudes. That's why I was so certain that the vast majority of people would embrace and rapidly embrace" gay marriage, Biden said, referring to an NBC show, which ended seven years ago, about a gay man and his female best friend.

"I bet you 85 percent of those changes, whether it's in Hollywood or social media, are a consequence of Jewish leaders in the industry," the gaffe-prone Veep said. "The influence is immense, the influence is immense. And, I might add, it is all to the good. "

A Story Of When A Baby Survived An Abortion

Washington, DC (LiveActionNews) — In previous articles, Live Action has covered cases where babies born alive after abortions were denied medical care and allowed to die, or, in some cases, were killed by direct action. The recent trial of Kermit Gosnell shows that these incidents continue to occur. The sheer number of cases we know about leads one to wonder how often babies are born alive, but no one outside the abortion clinic ever knows.

In April of 2005, a pregnant woman named “Angele,” decided to abort her 22 week old unborn baby. She was in her 30s, divorced, and already had two children. She did not want a third child. She chose Orlando Women’s Center, also called EPOC Clinic operated by Dr. James Pendergraft. The abortion clinic’s website advertises “3 minute pain-free abortions.” The Orlando Women’s Center has published newspaper ads offering abortions up to 28 weeks.

Angele had named her baby Rowan. She chose a method of abortion that she hoped would cause the child a minimum of suffering – an injection of digoxin in the heart to kill him, rather than dismemberment by D&E.
The abortionist first had to insert laminaria, small sticks that expand inside the woman and dilate the cervix, making the abortion procedure easier. Before the insertion of laminaria, Angele was given a sedative. In her own words:

“The injection burned a lot as it went in. … The discomfort was distracting. I still felt the ‘lams’ as they were being inserted. Dr. Perper told me to relax my muscles and noted that my cervix was slightly soft. I asked him what that meant and he said it was good.”

Angele says the clinic workers discussed injecting the digoxin, but they never did. She described the doctor Harry Perper, MD, as “a very fast moving, hyperactive type of person.”
When Angele went back to the hotel, she continued to feel her baby kick. This confused her because she had been led to believe that the baby would be dead. At one point, in the middle of the night, while the baby was still kicking, she considered calling the clinic’s after-hours line, but decided not to.
The next morning, Angele took the pills meant to cause her body to expel her baby. She arrived at the clinic around 9 am. She was ushered into a room and told that her doctor would not be in the clinic until 2pm, and that if she delivered before then, without him present, she would have to stay and be examined by him. Angele was given a blanket and a heating pad, and left alone to go through labor.
The contractions began. At one point, the pain became intense and she asked clinic worker “Violene” if she could be given anything to ease the pain. She also told Violene that she thought she was about to deliver. Violene told her she was not ready, and left her again. In Angele’s own words:

“I came back to the sofa, (they both really smelled awful), wrapped up in the wet and sour-smelling blanket, then decided it was better without it. I rocked back and forth on my hands and knees, trying to hold the heating pad to my stomach to both relieve the pain and try to stay warm. I was looking down and saw little smears and spots of dried blood on the floor and an old cotton ball with blood on it by the fabric-covered sofa across from me. Noticing how dirty it was and how no one was in the room or even nearby in the hallway began to make me nervous and uncomfortable. I went right back to the powder room and began to try to push a lot. I thought it might help since I was told I was not nearly ready to deliver.”
“In one agonizing push, I felt and heard something come out. Then immediately another push. I was weak. I just held my head in my hands for a moment. Then I decided to stand up. I looked. There was my baby, the whitish cord and what I thought surely must be the placenta. “I started sobbing and lay down in the floor. I stared and stared at my son. I was horrified that I had just had him in a commode.” “His right leg moved. He curled up a bit like he was cold; I screamed for Violene! No one came. I managed to get to the doorway, pants down, blood everywhere and yelled again. I went back to my baby. I heard her say she’d be right there.
“I showed her Rowan, told her he was alive and moving and to call 911! She took a quick look, said he’s not moving now and she’d be back to take care of things while walking out. I called her again. I was touching Rowan softly and he moved again. I called her back. Rowan jumped, I think startled by the loud sound of my calling for help. I showed her that he was moving and alive. I begged her to hurry and call 911, now!”

The clinic worker took one look at the moving baby and told Angele that she would get her supervisor. But the minutes ticked by, and no one came. It became clear to Angele that Violene was not going to summon help. She grabbed her phone and quickly dialed her friend, pleading with her to call 911 and send paramedics to save her baby.

Angele continued to be left alone with her son, who she said reacted to her voice. All she could do was try and comfort him:

“I stayed beside Rowan talking to him, telling him how strong he was being and how proud I was of him. I told him God must really want us to be together for him to make it through everything he had just been through and that Mommy was so sorry but so happy to have a chance to love him. I told him he was a strong little miracle and that I couldn’t wait for him to meet his brother and sister. I just kept touching him, trying to warm him with my hands and talking to him so he would not feel any more afraid than he already must.”

Finally, the baby stopped moving as Angele waited for help.
She cradled the dead baby and began to pray, filled with remorse for choosing to undergo the abortion. A staff member came and demanded that she give her the baby. Angele refused, and continued to hold on to Rowan. The clinic workers left her alone briefly but returned to pressure her to give up the body of the child.
Meanwhile, the police (not the paramedics) showed up at the clinic. It was later found out that the paramedics had come, but a clinic worker, thought to be Violene, told them that a patient had merely “passed some tissue” and that “the physician had the situation under control.”(1) She convinced them not to enter the clinic. (The physician was not in the clinic at all when Violene told them this)
When Violene came back after talking to the police, Angele said:

“I spoke to her telling her how little I appreciated them telling the police my child was not alive. I stared hard at her and said, ‘Violene you saw him moving. That is when you were supposedly going to get your manager and “take care of it.” You stayed away until Rowan died. I don’t care what you say, you and I both know he was very much alive. We know the truth.’ She said nothing and turned away.

Although the doctor had never arrived and Angele had been told she had to be examined by him, the clinic workers seemed to want nothing more than to get her (and her friend, who had arrived) out of the clinic. They gave her a bag with medicine in it and ushered them both out the door.
Angele wanted an autopsy to be performed to prove Rowan was born alive. The local coroner refused to do it. Eventually, an autopsy was performed by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jan C. Garavaglia. The medical examiner was unable to determine whether Rowan had been born alive, because she did not find air in his lungs. However, she also found that, as Angele had said, the baby had most likely never been injected with Dixogin (there were no needle marks anywhere on the baby’s body, which would have been left had the injection occurred.) Dr. Garavaglia stated that it was “probable” that Rowan’s heart had been beating and that, therefore, he had been born alive. Without air in the lungs, however, it could not be officially proven.
No action was ever taken against the clinic for Rowan’s death.
Angele later wrote a letter to Operation Rescue’s Troy Newman in which she said in part:

“Thank you very much for your kindness. It is amazing the out pour of kind words and support I am receiving after Rowan’s death.
I wish that I had such a network and support before, I would still be pregnant. …I hope that women will see my humiliation and remorse and seek forgiveness if they are post abortive.
I want to do everything in my power to see that this does not happen to other babies or mothers.
I want women in crisis pregnancies to see that whether they are of 6 weeks or 28 weeks gestation, that abortion will haunt them for the rest of their lives. I would like for them to know that no matter how little you want the pregnancy itself, you will want, love and cherish your child. Those 9 months of crisis are the toughest. If you make it through that, the rewards come 1000 fold!…. It is very shameful to step forward and admit publicly that I have been so wrong as to “choose” to take the life of my child. On the other hand if it will accomplish any or all of the above, then it is my duty, isn’t it? That is so long as I protect the children I have here first and foremost. I know God wants me to put them first, just as I should have with Rowan.”

Abortion Providers Admit To Not Saving Baby That Survives An Abortion

A third shocking undercover video has been released showing abortion clinic staffers saying they will not revive babies who are born alive after failed abortions. The videos show embattled abortion practitioner Kermit Gosnell was not an anomaly.
The new video comes on the heels of abortion doctor Cesare Santangelo of Washington, D.C, who was exposed on a recent undercover video telling a 24-week pregnant woman that in the unlikely event that an abortion resulted in a live birth, “we would not help it.”  Before that, the pro-life group released a video showing an abortion facility staff member saying an unborn child born alive after a botched abortion should just be flushed down the toilet.

Now, Live Action released a third undercover video exposing Phoenix, Arizona-based late-term abortion doctor Laura Mercer and an abortion center counselor who would leave a newborn, struggling for life after a failed abortion, to die.

This is the third in a series of undercover videos, found at www.liveaction.org/inhuman, involving the illegal and inhuman practices of late-term abortion centers, as well as describing in horrific detail what happens to the mother and baby in a late-term abortion.

When asked by the undercover investigator what would happen if the baby were to survive the abortion, Linda, an abortion center counselor, admits they would not help the baby:
Sometimes they are [alive], yeah. But it doesn’t–it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will come out whole. ‘Cause they use suction, plus they use instruments so sometimes the fetuses don’t come out–you know, it’s not complete…
Investigator: But if it does come out whole…I mean, are–will they resuscitate it? Like, will I have to take care of it?
Linda: Uh-uh… No…They do not resuscitate.
Doctor Mercer tells an undercover Live Action investigator who is 24 weeks pregnant:
We do the injection, which is a quick poke through your belly, um, and that stops the fetal heart, so that makes it so, if you were to deliver, there shouldn’t be movement. There shouldn’t be any of those things… Yes we induce a demise–an intrauterine demise… Um, death.
Then Live Action investigator asks whether an ambulance should be called if the mother goes into labor during the two-day procedure. Dr. Mercer instructs the investigator not to call:
No, call us first…if you showed up in an average emergency room with an emergency room physician who’s not a gynecologist, probably has never seen or done a termination, they will treat you as though you are somebody with a desired pregnancy…
Investigator: So they would basically like try to take care of it.
Dr. Mercer: Right they would intervene and do all kinds of crazy things that you don’t need to have done to you…
“This video is just the latest evidence of a disturbing and horrifying trend occurring inside America’s abortion industry,” said Lila Rose of Lila Action.

She told LifeNews in a statement: “The horrors of the Kermit Gosnell trial are a widespread problem in this industry.    Dismembering and destroying innocent children, leaving born babies to die, injecting poison into the chest of a tiny child so that he slowly dies in his own mother’s womb – this is all standard operating procedure in the abortion industry.  But these children are human beings. They have the same basic human rights and deserve the same protections all of us enjoy.”
Rose condemned the “barbaric, inhuman, and deeply disturbing” practices espoused by Dr. Mercer and the late-term abortion center staff at Family Planning Associates Medical Group.
“The testimony we’ve documented in this abortion facility strongly suggests that staff there are committing infanticide,” said Rose.  “The Family Planning Associates Medical Group needs to be investigated immediately, and delicensed.  Women are at risk during these brutal procedures, and this is a matter of life and death for these children.”
Rose is calling for Attorney General Eric Holder and the U.S. Attorney’s office to investigate and prosecute Dr. Mercer and the Family Planning Associates Medical Group, who admit they violate federal law. Rose also called on local health and law enforcement officials to investigate Dr. Mercer and Family Planning Associates Medical Group and put an end to illegal and inhuman practices.
From the letter to Attorney General Holder: “We urge you, as the U.S. Attorney General, to speak out against this injustice, and to see to it that Dr. Mercer and the Family Planning Associates Medical Group are duly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. … I hope that you will do everything in your power to speak out for victims of infanticide – both the children and the women – and to protect the human rights of our weakest citizens.”

Stutzman Countersues Washington Over Religious Discrimination

 

The owner of Arlene’s Flowers in Richland, who refused a longtime customer’s request to provide flowers for his same-sex wedding, has launched a counter suit against state Attorney General Bob Ferguson, who sued her for violating Washington’s Consumer Protection Act.

The counter suit, filed by an anti-gay-"marriage" group called Alliance Defending Freedom, argues that Ferguson’s suit is attempting to force Barronelle Stutzman to act contrary to her religious convictions in violation of her freedoms under the state constitution.

“In America, the government is supposed to protect freedom, not use its intolerance for certain viewpoints to intimidate citizens into acting contrary to their faith convictions.  Family business owners are constitutionally guaranteed the freedom to live and work according to their beliefs,” said Dale Schowengerdt, senior legal counsel with the Arizona-based group.

Ferguson repeated his rationale for initially filing the suit.

“It’s the Attorney General’s job to enforce consumer protection laws which prohibit discrimination in the marketplace,” said the AG.  “If Ms. Stutzman sells flowers to heterosexual couples, she must sell them to same sex couples.  As an individual, she is free to hold religious beliefs but as a business owner, she may not violate our state’s laws against discrimination — no matter what she personally believes.”

The dispute between Stutzman and customer Robert Ingersoll has become the stuff of litigation and legislation.  Early this year, after Washington legalized same-sex "marriage", Ingersoll went to Stutzman and asked her shop to serve his wedding.  She declined, in Stutzman’s words, “because of my relationship with JC.”

The Attorney General has sued Stutzman.  Ingersoll and partner Curt Freed, with the American Civil Liberties Union acting as council, have announced that they will sue Stutzman.

 Thirteen Republicans in the state Senate have introduced "broadly" worded legislation to allow businesses to "discriminate" against gay and lesbian customers.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Sharon Brown, R-Kennewick, would exempt from the state’s anti-discrimination laws businesses that deny goods or services to gay customers because of “sincerely held religious beliefs, philosophical beliefs or matters of conscience.”

The Senate bill is directed squarely at the LGBT community.  Federal law prohibits discrimination based on race, religion or physical disability.  Its sponsors include Republican lawmakers from Eastern and Southwest Washington, but only one Puget Sound-area legislator, Sen. Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor.

The Alliance Defending Freedom, in its counter suit against Ferguson, cites Section 11 of the state constitution, which protects “freedom of conscience in all matters of religious sentiment, belief and worship” and guarantees that “no one shall be molested or disturbed in person or property on account of religion.”

The litigation, filed in Benton County Superior Court, argues that Stutzman had a problem “promoting” the same-sex ceremony, not with serving customers who identify as gay or lesbian.  It notes that Stutzman “has been creating floral arrangements for Robert Ingersoll for nearly nine years.”

Anne Levinson, a former judge and Seattle deputy mayor, responded to the suit by arguing:  “Ms. Stuzman, like any other business person, is entitled to her own beliefs, but that does not give her the right to pick and choose whom she will serve based on those beliefs.  The Constitution protects the freedom to worship as one chooses, not the freedom to use religious beliefs to justify denying service.”

Levinson cited another case with origins in Oklahoma.

“In a federal lawsuit before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, a police captain is arguing that he too has a religious right not to serve certain members of the public because they do not share his faith.  The Islamic Society of Tulsa held a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in 2011 to thank local police for protecting their center after it received threats during the previous year.
 “The police captain claimed that attending or sending officers to the event would violate his religious beliefs, which require him to proselytize anyone who does not share his Christian faith.  So one can readily see that this argument that religious beliefs should allow for discrimination in business and in the public square is not just about flowers.”

Washington, Maine and Maryland, in last November’s election, became the seventh, eighth and ninth states to approve same gender "marriage".  The same-sex "marriage" legislation, Referendum 74, passed with a big margin in Puget Sound population centers but lost heavily in the Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco and Kennewick).

Legislatures in Rhode Island, Delaware and Minnesota have, this year, brought to 12 states (and the District of Columbia) those in which couples of the same gender can wed. Gay and lesbian weddings in Washington began last December.

ACLU pushes For Gay "Wedding" On TV Show To Brainwash Kids

NEW YORK – ACLU Action, a new initiative of the American Civil Liberties Union, launched a campaign today urging "Modern Family's" producers to script a wedding episode for popular gay characters Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker. The campaign comes as Americans await the Supreme Court's decisions on two important marriage equality cases, the DOMA and Prop 8 cases – the ACLU is direct counsel in the DOMA case, United States v. Windsor – and as a stream of states pass marriage equality measures. The campaign can be found at ModernFamilyWedding.com.

"The freedom to marry is being advanced in American living rooms as much as in court rooms," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. "As we wait for the Supreme Court to rule, we want to keep this issue on the minds and screens of Americans everywhere."

ACLU Action aims to activate the ACLU's 750,000 online supporters to have a political impact through social media and new grassroots organizing tools, and to reach out to new audiences, with its message of equal rights for all. By calling on Americans to "RSVP" that they will watch Cam and Mitch get married, the campaign will let the "Modern Family" producers know that a wedding episode would be a ratings hit. The campaign will put marriage equality before new and younger audiences through social media channels.

ACLU Action plans to deliver the "guest list" created by this RSVP to the producers of "Modern Family," Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd. The delivery will be timed to capitalize on the energy arising out of the landmark Supreme Court cases to be decided this summer, as the writers and producers are scripting the next season of "Modern Family."

Twelve states and the District of Columbia already have marriage equality, with Rhode Island, Delaware and Minnesota passing legislation within the past two weeks. Illinois is widely expected to follow shortly. A March ABC News/Washington Post poll showed that 58 percent of the nation supports marriage equality with only 36 percent opposed. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the two marriage equality cases in June.

"The ACLU has been working since 1936 to guarantee the rights of lesbian and gay people, and we see sending Cam and Mitch down the aisle before 13 million American viewers as the perfect next step," added Romero.

Bill De Blasio Holds Gay Fundraiser

A star-studded gala Sunday night launched "LGBT for BDB" - Public Advocate Bill de Blasio's effort to grab a chunk of the gay vote from City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

As the Daily News reported last month, Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker signed on to join the event alongside co-star Cynthia Nixon, a prominent lesbian and big presence in de Blasio's campaign.

De Blasio’s wife Chirlane McCray - who formerly identified as a lesbian and recently opened up about her sexuality in an interview with Essence Magazine - also featured at the glittery event, which was attended by about 300 supporters.. De Blasio wasn't shy about celebrating her lesbian past, praising her courage.

"Sometimes you're gay your whole life," Nixon said in introducing McCray, who has sent out a string of fundraising emails for her husband in recent days. "Then you wake up one day and you're straight."
Nixon herself was straight until her late 30s, when she met Christine Marinoni, an education activist who is now her wife.

De Blasio hopes to gain the support of gay progressives who question whether Quinn, who would be the city’s first openly gay mayor, is liberal enough.

FCC Wants To Allow More Nudity On TV

I think you would agree: today’s television programming already goes far enough — too far, in fact.
Hollywood shock jocks have successfully snuck in more sex, violence, and profanity, making it hard for parents to find “smut-free” zones on the public airwaves suitable for their families.
The last thing we need is more filth and vulgarity.
Even though 75 percent of Americans want more Federal Communications Commission (FCC) restrictions on public television content, the FCC is considering dropping current broadcast decency standards that ban explicit profanity and “non-sexual” nudity.

With America already undergoing a huge indecency problem, it’s unfathomable to think the FCC actually wants to allow more filth such as frontal female nudity, the F-bomb, and the “S” word on broadcast television during hours when our kids will be watching and listening.

Evidently, the F-bomb and other obscenities are more common in the nation’s vernacular, but I know that parents of young kids work hard to shield them from picking up vulgarities.

When I served as Special Advisor for then-FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, I constantly received comments from moms and dads who were fed up and rightly so.

Raunchy images and lewd gestures steal our children’s innocence. By age 18, an American teenager will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence, according to the American Psychiatric Association. And the Parents Television Council reports that these vast amounts of graphic images and obscenity are causing long term and irreparable damage, including desensitization, disrespect for parents, and a lack of empathy for human suffering.

Parents do have a responsibility to protect their children from obscenity. And ideally, parents would have the sole authority and power to monitor the airwaves. But that just isn’t our reality.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, children 8 to18 years old consume a total of seven hours and 38 minutes of screen time every day — more than the time they spend at school!

Half of these children live in households with absolutely zero restrictions on the media they consume, and a mere five percent of parents actually watch the programs their children are watching.

Additionally, today’s digital world has fostered a generation of kids more tech savvy than their parents, and they can easily maneuver around parental blocks on televisions.

However, even if the blocking system is firmly in place, the individual show ratings are given by the networks themselves and often do not meet the criteria set by parents.

Live sports shows in which players drop expletives will never be caught by filters, which is why the networks need to feel the pressure to institute the good old thirty-second-delay feature.  Parents have limited choices, but we must not give up.

Parental responsibility also does not acquit corporate decorum. Broadcasters are given free license to broadcast, and in exchange, are simply required to meet minimal standards of conduct. In fact, the FCC’s authority is so limited that it can only regulate public television from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Because parents — the public — own these airwaves, shouldn’t we have some say over how they’re used? The answer is “of course!” And ratings speak volumes.

Profit incentives are found in wholesome family entertainment. Consider the History Channel’s ground-breaking series, “The Bible.” This dramatization of the Gospel opened with a two-hour premier that garnered a record-breaking 13.1 million viewers. By the end of the series’ run, the History Channel was the top cable network in total viewership. This level of success is not unusual for Christian productions.

In 2004, the commercial blockbuster, “The Passion” raked in $611,899,420 in ticket sales worldwide.
Hollywood needs to pay attention.

Other top-rated family shows include Fox’s “American Idol” and A&E’s “Duck Dynasty,” which broke records recently when 9.6 million viewers tuned in for the show's final episode.

May 20 is the cut-off date set by the FCC to receive the public’s feedback on its consideration to slash its broadcast decency standards. You’d better believe they’ll be hearing from my organization, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, as we engage the FCC and move to the front lines of the fight to protect America’s children and families with our “Stop the FCC” petition. We already have 12,000 signatures from concerned parents and grandparents across the nation.

The FCC is failing America’s families, giving broadcasters unfettered access to our children to peddle their vulgarity in the name of “freedom of speech.” We won’t stand for it.
